Collaboration Super Tool, or Just Another Dissipating Wave

Has Google has done it again? New Media Collaboration players are releasing countless software products and upgrades, but none of them (except Microsoft perhaps) have the scale and integration across peoples current communication platforms to transform the way people work... to actually collaborate well. It is just to easy to send an e-mail. Google Wave might have solved it. Oh, Adobe and IBM and countless others think that have too.

THE QUESTIONS:

- Why do we have to live with divides between different types of communication — email versus chat, or conversations versus documents?
- Could a single communications model span all or most of the systems in use on the web today, in one smooth continuum? How simple could we make it?
- What if we tried designing a communications system that took advantage of computers' current abilities, rather than imitating non-electronic forms? Beyond the keyboard and mouse?
- If Google has all of our communications in one place... what are the implications?
