Discovery requires movement “Travel broadens one so"

Problem

You cannot push the boundaries without moving. Often, one doesn’t know what to ask or what they are missing. Stationary thought is evaluative, not expansive. To allow discover, you must create motion to allow things to be uncovered and explored, thereby creating thought levers that identify the questions, if the answers are known, and discovery of new ideas.

Stasis mode is created by relentless pounding on the same problem. Like brutal frontal assaults on the Western Front in World War I, where progress was measured in yards, it demoralizes the human spirit. Staying in the same locale, same cubicle, at the same computer, where nothing changes means no opportunity to change.

Solution

Travel, perception of a journey, perspective gained from seeing a problem at a distance or in a different context, or physical movement within the space is an important component in moving to a solution. Travel to the ASE location is a start, though it is only the journey to the vessel where the voyage takes place. Movement presents fresh perspective on a problem. Movement comes in many ways:

· Movement within the space itself from breakout space to radiant room to different breakout space.

· Mental movement through looking at problems from a different perspective or vantage point.

· Perceived motion on the issue at hand.

“You cannot dig a hole in a different place by digging the same hole deeper.” --Edward de Bono

Force movement. Have the participants move in the space frequently. The act of designing creates decisions.
